When Maria went to get a passport, she had to give her real date of birth, but under all other circumstances she refused. When somebody asked how old she was, she said she was twenty-one, mentally omitting all Sundays. Sundays she didn't work, so naturally she didn't get any older.
How old was Maria really?

I assume the author means all Sundays since she was born.
Each year has 52 weeks and every week a Sunday.
Therefore;
21 * 52 = 1092 Sundays
Every year has 365 days,
Then 1092 / 365 = 2.992
Therefore she was : 21 + 3 = 24 years old
