The average age of husband, wife and their child 3 years ago was 27 years and that of wife and the child 5 years ago was 20 years.
What is the present age of the husband?

Let's present ages of husband,wife & child are x,y,& z respectively.
3 years ago,
(x-3)+(y-3)+(z-3)=27
=> x+y+z=90...............................(i)
5 years ago,
(y-5)+(z-5)=20
y+z=50....................................(ii)
therefore
x+50=90.........(put value of y+z=50 from (ii) into (i)
x=40
Ans: present age of husband is 40 years

( (H-3) + (W-3) + (C-3) ) / 3 = 27 ; H + W + C = 81+9= 90

(( W -5) + (C - 5)) / 2 = 20 ; W + C = 40+10 =50
Then,
H + 50 = 90 , Present age of husband is 40
