I creep in with feline grace -
Stealthy, silent, gliding -
Adding beauty, mystery, and stillness to all in my path.

My shape is ever-changing:
Pausing and moving, here and there,
A cool caress across your cheek as I slip quietly by.

But my looks are deceiving -
Peril may lurk behind my misty veil.
Slow down, be cautious, or you may abruptly meet with danger there.

What am I?

I had a mistress, with beauty and grace,
With a curious hand and fair to face.
She was the first on earth, and made of clay.
I was a gift to Epimethius on their wedding day.
The Gods, they wanted her to let me be.
But none of their warnings did she heed.
You see, my mistress was alone one day,
When to me her inquisitive hand did stray.
She gave you sickness, destruction and greed,
And all of the things from which evil does feed.
But do not be angry, do not mope.
The last she gave you? It was hope.
What am I and who was my mistress?

Though my beauty is becoming, I can hurt you just the same.
I come in many colors.
You will always know my name.
Some love me for one reason.
Some may dislike me just as well.
More than one of any color of me will surely always sell.

Though my gray beginnings are not so pretty,
I grow quite well into my beauty.
Alabaster white or black as night,
My grace is known world wide.
I may make my home in the chilly Arctic,
I'm also known well down under,
From North America to South America I may be known to trumpet.
As a female I may Pen my name,
While the males may prefer to pick at a Cob.
But near or far my beauty is known by lore and by myth.

I stand in your kitchen, small but smart,
Warming your food, playing my part.
With waves of magic, I heat with grace,
Guess my name in this cooking space.

A time to sow, a time to reap
But over a life, this time would creep

I was created in 46 B.C.
Brought into being by Caesar's decree

But still the seasons were unimpressed
Man-made and tropical slowly digressed

So good Pope Greg set everything straight
with inspired rules that worked out great

I am grander than my common peers
I come 97 times every 400 years

By following my rules, as widely agreed
We all know what day to plant our seed
