He who isn't a he, she, or a it?

He can look up to the skies and dream.
He is bestowed with the greatest title of all, which nothing can claim to deserve.
He is not necessarily a he.
Neither is he necessarily a she.
But definitely not an it.
He exists in diversity
He has many forms.
But truly, He is one and the same.

Who is this enigma?

Four legs have I, a sturdy fellow
A fuzzy back that isn't yellow
But (often) green or (rarely) red
A den is where I make my bed
My keepers feed me coloured balls
With sticks they store on my den walls
Sometimes I store them in my pouch
Sometimes deep in my belly; ouch!
That's when you'll see me acting strange
Instead of balls, I'll eat your change
And that's my cue to feed again
Chalk it up to hunger, friend!

In Mrs. Sharma's Science class, they are holding a contest. She has a glass bottle, and a little bronze ball, the size of which is the exact same as the hole in the bottle. Mrs. Sharma is giving the student who can put the ball in the bottle, without breaking the glass or destroying the ball somehow and get an iPOD.

In her room there is a microwave, petroleum jelly, a stove, and a freezer.

Six of her seven students attempted this feat, but with no luck.

After the sixth student, the seventh, Gagan, comes up to the bottle and the ball. He thinks of using one of the tools in Mrs. Sharma's room at his disposal, and uses one (not the jelly as it was already proven to not work) and five hours later, gets the ball in the bottle and his free iPOD.

How did he do it?
