An explorer was captured by a tribe whose chief decided that the man should die.
But, the chief was fond of riddles and puzzles.
He gave the explorer a chance to save his life.
He could make a single statement: if it was true, he would be thrown over a high cliff, but if it was false, he would be thrown into the lion's den.
What statement did the clever explorer make which forced the chief to spare his life?

While exploring the wilds of Mexico, John was captured by hostile wood fairies.
Jacob, the powerful chief of the fairies told him he could make one final statement which would determine how he would die.
If the statement he made was false, he would be boiled in water.
If the statement were true, he would be fried in oil.
John found neither of this options too his liking, so he made a statement that got him out of this seemingly impossible situation.
What is the one statement he could have made?
