How far was it from my Great Aunt's to my home?

After visiting my Great Aunt Annie, I travelled home in her old jalopy. The car was old and battered, it had a leak from the petrol tank, and I was stuck in second gear.

This meant that I could only travel along at a steady 30 km per hour and managed a paltry 20 km per litre of fuel.

At the start of the journey I had placed exactly 10 litres of fuel into the tank. I knew though, that the fuel tank lost fuel at the rate of half a litre per hour.

Just as I arrived home, the car stopped because it had run out of fuel and I had only just made it.

Last week I decided to cycle to my Grandmother's house.

On the first day, I cycled half of the distance.
On day 2, I cycled one half of the remaining distance.
On day 3, I cycled three quarters of the remaining distance.
On day 4, I cycled 10 kms.
On day 5 I cycled two thirds of the remaining distance and on the final day I cycled the remaining 5 kms.

How far is it to my aunt's house?

Rohan and Sanya were out for a bike ride when the tyre on Rohan's bike burst.
They were 20 km from home, so they decided Rohan would walk back while Sanya would take the working bike, leave it further along the road and walk the rest of the way.
When Rohan reached the bike, he would ride it home.
If Rohan walks at 5 km/hr and rides at 12 km/hr and Sanya walks at 4 km/hr and rides at 10 km/hr, how far should Sanya ride the bike for both to arrive home at the same time?

Chaya learnt how to ride a horse recently. Just to test her skills, she rode the horse from her home to a mine which she covered in three minutes and returned home from the same path only this time she took four minutes. The reason was that while riding away from home, she was supported by the wind however while riding back, she was riding against the wind.

How fast do you think she could have ridden a mile if there was no wind?
