It was the first day of our second semester and we were looking for our hostel room numbers allotted, we saw that one of our friend was already allotted the room number last night and he challenged us to guess his new room number. We gave following answers

135, 780, 785 and 732.

He said, “That’s amazing”, “You’ve each guessed exactly one digit correctly and in its right place!”
Now can you guess what is his room number ?

You may turn the switches any way you want to.
You stop turning the switches, enter the room and know which switch controls the light bulb. how?

Our enemy challenges you to play Russian Roulette with a 6-cylinder pistol (meaning it has room for 6 bullets). He puts 2 bullets into the gun in consecutive slots, and leaves the next four slots blank. He spins the barrel and hands you the gun. You point the gun at yourself and pull the trigger. It doesn’t go off. Your enemy tells you that you need to pull the trigger one more time, and that you can choose to either spin the barrel at random, or not, before pulling the trigger again. Spinning the barrel will position the barrel in a random position.

Assuming you’d like to live, should you spin the barrel or not before pulling the trigger again?

There are 13 caves arranged in a circle. There is a thief hiding in one of the caves. Each day the the thief can move to any one of of the caves that is adjacent to the cave in which he was staying the previous day. And each day, you are allowed to enter any two caves of your choice.

What is the minimum number of days to guarantee in which you can catch the thief?

Note: Thief may or may not move to adjacent cave. You can check any two caves, not necessarily be adjacent. If thief and you exchange your caves, you will surely cross at some point, and you can catch the thief immediately.

In an ODI Cricket World Cup finale, India were given a stiff target of 405 runs by Australia to chase . As India is quite good at chasing, India was on the brink of victory, thanks to the two chase masters of India – Virat Kohli and M.S. Dhoni . India were 403 for the loss of 3 wickets in 49.4 overs . So, India needed just three runs in two balls . This was not a big deal for the two talismanic batsman, however, both of them were facing a problem . Virat Kohli was not out on 198 and M.S. Dhoni was playing on 97 . Kohli was going to take the strike for the next ball . Both the batsman after chatting for a few minutes came out with a plan such that Virat Kohli can get a double century, M.S. Dhoni can get a century and also India wins the match, with the two batsman remaining not out.

Can you guess what was the plan?

Assumptions:

  1. Both the remaining balls will be legal, i.e., no wide, no noballs .
  2. Only three runs is required of the final two balls .
