Answer: Touch a stationary stone with the stone just enough for the played stone to change direction
The meaning in curling is derived from a Old English word meaning "to bend, yield, give way". All other alternatives (loosely) use meanings of "wick" appropriate to different contexts and not used in curling. "Wick" can mean "alive, lively, highly active", "to convey or draw off (liquid) by capillary action", "a corner of the mouth or eye".
