The first team to chase down a target of over 300 runs in an ODI, was Sri Lanka, beating Zimbabwe at New Plymouth on 23 February 1992.
It was a world cup match. Zimbabwe were asked to bat first by Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe had made 312 with Andy Flower scoring century on debut = 115, opening the innings while Kevin Arnott made 52 off 56 balls and Andy Waller made 83 not out off just 45 balls. Sri Lankan chase was a collective effort with Rohan Mahamana making 59 from 89 balls, Athula Samarasekara 75 off 61 balls, Sanath Jayasuriya 32 off 23 balls while Arjuna Ranatunga saw his team home with an unbeaten 88 off 61 balls.
