Sushil Kumar the first Indian Athlete to win back to back two Individual Olympic medals.

Sushil Kumar is an Indian freestyle wrestler. Competing in the 66 kg weight division he won the 2010 world title, a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Coming from a modest background, Sushil Kumar was inspired by his cousin and father to take up wrestling. His family members provided him with all the necessities that he needed in order to make sure that he succeed as a wrestler.

Sushil Kumar’s father Diwan Singh was a D. T. C bus driver and a wrestler. Sushil was only 14 when he first started wrestling.

His cousin Sandeep, a local wrestling champion, encouraged him to take up wrestling. But since the family’s meager resources permitted only one of them to follow wrestling, Sandeep had to quit.

In 2012 , he refused to appear for the advertisement of a liquor brand believing that it would send a wrong message to the youth.

Sushil Kumar has won Five gold medals in Commonwealth Games, one Silver and one Bronze medal in Olympics.

He is also the first and the only Indian athlete to win two Olympic medal at for Independent India.

Sushil Kumar is an Employee at The Indian Railways as an assistant commercial manager.

Sushil Kumar doesn’t eat non-vegetarian food and has campaigned for Peta’s go vegetarian campaign.

In July 2009, Sushil Kumar was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna by Indian government – India's highest honour for sportspersons.
