Hockey and Cricket
Cricket free hit:- When a bowler bowls a no ball, in the immediate next ball the batsman cannot be ruled out in any dismissal modes other than those applicable for a no-ball, namely run out, handled the ball, hit the ball twice and obstructing the field.
Hockey free hit:- Free hits are awarded when offences are committed outside the scoring circles (the term 'free hit' is standard usage but the ball need not be hit). The ball may be hit, pushed or lifted in any direction by the team offended against.
