LTE: What is transmit diversity and what are the advantages of having it in LTE technology ?

I never worked in L1 and L2 of LTE bit went through multiple online references. I still not clear about this term.

In short, the diversity techniques are used to provide the receiver with several replicas of the transmitted signal, used to overcome the fading problem and to improve the performance of the radio channel without increasing the transmitted power and improves the SNR.

In Tx diversity case which is MISO, the same data is transmitted redundantly from the two transmitter antennas. The receiver is then able to receive the optimum signal which it can then use to receive extract the required data.
