Indirect tunnel is used for data forwarding during HO. Suppose source enb and target eNB do not have x2 interface. During HO if source eNB wants data forwarding and does not able to have direct tunnel between source eNB to target eNB then indirect tunnel will be created via sgw if core n/w and target eNB accept data forwarding.
