Which are the interfaces that provide this functions in the current architecture? Does it supports all the previous generations of packet switching?

Assume I configured XYZ as APN but trying to attach to network. How APN validation work here. Is it bi-directional or uni-directional validation ? Please explain in detail.
Does LTE network send any specific message to UE so that UE come to know network supports IMS call ? Or Does the LTE network broadcast information such as "it does not support IMS call" ?
