Whatever I read till now, SDN in LTE is being used to segregate control and data plane. In LTE network few of the nodes participate in control and data planes both while few of nodes only comes in control plane path.
The nodes which handle signalling and data both can be segregated and SDN controller comes in between control and data plane.
Control portion of the node such SGW will send data plane information (control information) to SDN controller and controller will translate the request into the protocol which SGW- data plane component switch understands.

I just know the about of term SDN i.e Software Defined Network which is used to configure white box switches at the run time.
I want to know how SDN can be used to for LTE network and where all places it can do something.

I went through a web material which was talking about connection less LTE network in which control place will be dis-aggregated from the user plane and data plane will not use GTP-U protocol. I want to know, after removing GTP-U from data plane, will there be any impact of existing procedures like UE state transition between Connected and IDLE states.
