As far as I have knowledge in LTE, eNodeB PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP and S1-U layer would be involved in data path for uplink as well as for downlink. For data path, some sort of signalling is also exchanged between UE and eNodeB. Each layer has PHY, MAC, RLC and PDCP layer exchange specific control messages just to make sure data path is clear and packets are reaching to other end properly.
For example: When UE has data to send to eNodeB, it sends signalling message to eNodeB over PUCCH/PUSCH channel. eNodeB allocates enough radio resources to UE and inform the same to UE using PDSCH channel. So now you can realize to send actual UE data, MAC layer of each side exchange signalling messages.
Similarly, RLC and PDCP layers also exchange signalling messages. Please go through MAC, RLC and PDCP specification if you are interested to look on those signalling messages.

A UE makes connection with network through eNodeB1 and after some time it RRC state changes from CONNECTED to IDLE and in idle mode UE moves to eNodeB2 and then it initiates service request to MME to reconnect with network again. My question, is there any change in Kenb when MME sends to eNodeB in Initial context setup request message.
