Discard timer is configured per bearer level(if configured). discard timer value may vary bearer to bearer. Based on the QoS being served by a bearer, value of discard timer is configured by RRC layer at pdcp layer while establishing/modifying a bearer. I have not any statement which tells that discard timer is applicable only for UM or RLC mode bearer. So I think it is applicable for both type of data bearers. Please correct me if I am wrong. Since basic objective of discard timer is to keep the PDCP SDU for a configured time (discard timer value) . Minimum value of discard timer is 50 millisecond. It means if anything wrong happened in the system, re-transmission of PDCP PDU can be done if required or if discard timer gets expired and there is no acknowledgement from lower layer for corresponding PDCP PDU, discard the stored PDCP SDU since it is loo late for PDCP layer. Now re-transmission would be at application level.

Yes discard timer is applicable for both for UM & AM mapped DRB's , as the discard timer is started as a SDU from upper layer reaches PDCP .

DL data transfers in PDCP when DRB mapped on RLC AM mode.

36.323. (Section :- 5.1.2.1.2)

This section mentioned alogithm but I want to know how conditions are defined ?
eg.
- if received PDCP SN – Last_Submitted_PDCP_RX_SN > Reordering_Window or 0 <= Last_Submitted_PDCP_RX_SN – received PDCP SN < Reordering_Window: ------> This is actually seems to be condition when PDU is out of reorder window boundary.

  • Is this due ti circular definitions for PDCP SN ?

  • kindly suggest any document which will give some detail description about it.

Thanks .

As per 3gpp 36.322 Release 12.0 RLC specification, Extended RLC LI field = 15 bit is newly included in AM mode.
Can anyone please explain, exactly in what condition this 15-bit LI value will be used.

In specification of RRC and PDCP i.e 36.331 and 36.323, PDCP SN is defined with variable length such as 7 bits, 12 bits, 15 bits and 18 bits. I want to know in which scenario upper layer (RRC/application) decides on using the different length for PDCP SN ?
