VLDB means Very Large DataBase, an environment or storage space managed by a relational database management system (RDBMS) consisting of vast quantities of information.

The most common definition of VLDB is a database that occupies more than 1 terabyte or contains several billion rows, although this definition changes over time as more and more capacity is getting added to the computing machines.

VLDB = Very Large DataBase, an environment or storage space managed by a relational database management system (RDBMS) consisting of vast quantities of information. The definition of what exactly a VLDB is changes every day as hardware and software adapt, become faster and faster – and are capable of handling more and more loads. Usually though, VLDB’s “don’t fit on laptops”. But wait, this changes tomorrow to. IBM is scheduled to produce a disk that is capable of holding 3x the gigabytes on your laptop within the next year.
