My guess only: As per the law you need to find the approximate location of the user so that services like 911 etc can be delivered even if user is not in the condition to tell about its location.

There may be n reasons for tracing an UE. I have very limited information on this topic. Trace procedure consists of two sub actions. First starts the tracing for an UE and then collect and send Trace logs to TCE i.e. Trace collection entity.

As per my knowledge, tracing for an UE may be applicable for two purposes 1. MDT i.e. Minimization of drive test and 2. UE specific analysis (monitoring UE specific activity in network) w.r.t message exchanges over a number of interface like Uu, S1, X2 etc.

If I am right, an eNodeB can support multiple cells and each cell has different pci.
Now suppose enodeB has two cells i.e cell1 and cell2. If I am going right, both the cell(s) should have different PCIs.
I have assumed UE is attached to cell1 and due to mobility, it is moved to cell2. During this movement, what message shall be exchanged between UE and enodeB. And Is there any message send to MME regarding the new cell ?

It may be an easy question but still I have some doubt.
How RRC Connection setup procedure gets impacted with the presence of "S-TMSI" as an UE-Identity within the RRC Connection Request message ?
Note: RRC Connection request message can carry either 5 bytes long (S-TMSI) or 5 bytes long random value.

ue send s-tmsi in place of ue id in rrc con req, will s-TMSI remain same in case of HO also ?
