problems printing over samba

I have an Ubuntu machine used as an occasional desktop & lightweight home server. It runs cups & samba for printing from a couple of other devices.

My wife's old Windows 2000 desktop often had problems reaching the printer, but her new Windows 8 (I know, sorry!) laptop found it & used it without any problems from day 1.

Since I upgraded (or at least mostly upgraded --- see other post) the Ubuntu server to 13.04 yesterday, she's been having problems printing to the same hostname & printer share. If I log into the
server & run "sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart" and "sudo /etc/init.d/smbd restart", it works again.

My Ubuntu :-) laptop runs CUPS & uses the ipp URL for the printer, & has worked consistently through various versions of Ubuntu on the laptop & the server since I figured out the right ipp URL.

he cups error log is in /var/log/cups/error_log which might (or might not) show something useful.
Do you have to restart both samba and cups?

How do I set permissions on a samba connection (using Linux)

I have an existing system which contains a LAN connected disk drive. I have added a new computer on which I installed Ubuntu (this is my first linux experience). From the Ubuntu computer I can read the files on the samba connected drive but I can not write to those files. I have tried to change the permissions but can not locate where the drive is mounted. So my question ishow do I change the permissions?

System error Concerning Samba

When I connect my laptop to my samba network on my Ubuntu 12.04 box, and then shut down the lap top I get a system error on my desk top that is running Ubuntu.

A pop up box asks me if I am running a windows server. I tell it yes and it did work properly on Ubuntu 10.04.

Both computers can connect with each other, and I can transfer files back and forth from either one. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong. After I shut down the lap top is when I get the error.

Is there some way that I have to log the lap top out of the samba network before I turn of the lap top?

I have used Google and other searches to try and find out but have found nothing.

Does Android SDK require root/sudo for doing build on Ubuntu 16.04 platform?

We have tried to do build with the normal user, but it failed after some time without giving any permission issue. I have made compilation directory permission as 777 and the same code has been compiled successfully with sudo or root user.

DPDK: Why TX ring size is configured 4 times more of that RX ring size ?

I download a DPDK based application and found the size of TX ring is 4 times more than size of RX ring. I could not get satisfactory answer or in other words, I couldn't understand.
