Why processor speed is measured in hertz?

Machine cycle is an important factor and faster the machine cycle faster the program execution so processor speed is linked to machine cycle. Since machine cycle is linked to the CPU clock which is measured in Hertz which is a measure of cyclic change, hence the processor. Hope it clarifies the doubt.
