What is 8.8.8.8?

As per my understanding 8.8.8.8 is nothing but ip of google.com,
So my question is if google.com ip is "8.8.8.8"
then if i do ping google.com then why it is showing some different IP?

Example:
ping google.com
pinging google.com [74.125.228.232] with 32 bytes of data

Not sure about the question I check the IP of google.com its showing 74.125.225.2 (checked it on http://dns2ip.info/ ).
