DNS Android configuration

I have been trying to change the DNS server to the desired one creating an /etc/resolv.conf without any success, I have also tried to configure the desired DNS server using the getprop/setprop commands - basically I have changed all the entries where the old DNS server IP address was contained but ... it simply does not work, I am working with an full_manta 4.4.4.4 KTU84P compiled by myself and with root access, how can I accomplish such a simple task ?
