Ivory Cost is the largest COCOA producing country followed by GHANA. Ivory coast has 33% share in world COCOA production where as Ghana has about 15%.
Few facts about cocoa -
1. There are 5-6 million cocoa farmers worldwide. 40-50 million people depend upon cocoa for their livelihood. About 90%-95% of all cocoa is produced by smallholder farmers.
2. 70 percent of global cocoa production comes from West African countries and 45% from just two countres i.e. Ghana and Ivory Coast
3. Cocoa is the main ingredient used to make chocolate. To make 1 kg of chocolate, about 300 to 600 cocoa beans are processed, depending on the desired cocoa content.
4. Over forty percent of the world's cocoa beans are consumed in Europe.
