Humayun was the first Mughal ruler to issue gold coins. Some of the most beautiful Mughal gold coins were issued by Akbar and his successors. These coins are called muhr or muhar meaning "seal". Most of the Mughal coins are round or square in shape. Akbar, however, issued a few hexagon-shaped coins also.
