The translation for Belladonna, during Renaissance Italy, meant "beautiful lady" because the atropine/scopolamine extract from the Belladonna plant produced dilated pupils which the Italian men found as an alluring feature in women.

The other name for Belladonna is: Deadly Nightshade.

The scientific name is: Atropa belladonna.
