Cord of wood is a unit used to measure firewood, it is only used in three countries USA, Canada and New Zealand. Unlike cubic metres a cord is a measurement that is taken when the wood has been neatly stacked. Once this has been done it should take 3.62 cubic metres - which is difficult to picture in ones mind. An easier way to envisage it is a nice pile of wood 2.44m long, 1.22m high and 1.22m deep or simply 4' x 4' x 8'.
