Coe, a medal-winning Olympic athlete, previously a British politician and the head of Londons bid for the 2012 Olympics, accepted the presidency just before widespread concerns about doping intensified. Shortly after his appointment a whistleblower revealed IAAF doping data between 2001 and 2012 and alleged lax controls and/or coverups; there was also a claim that the IAAF had suppressed publication of a 2011 report in which around a third of top athletes admitted evading doping restrictions.
