Is the relationship between pets and family a growing relationship?

In general with DOG yes but it may be different with different pets.
Over the period of time pet becomes a member of the family and everybody cares for the pet and the pet cares for the family and this bond grows with time.

Note: Does the above information has any scientific proof I don't know, its just my observation.
