Egg
The egg was made of gold coated with opaque white enamel, with a thin band of polished gold around the middle of the egg where the egg opens to reveal a "yolk" of gold which in turn opens on a varicoloured gold hen set with ruby eyes, which in its turn opens to show a gold and diamond replica of the imperial crown and a tiny ruby pendant. Fabergé's workshop eventually created 50 "eggs" of various kinds.
