A tabletop mountain in the Guiana Highlands of South America
Tepuis are found especially in Venezuela and western Guyana. The word tepui means "house of the gods" in the native tongue of the Pemon, the indigenous people who inhabit the Gran Sabana. The tepuis sit above hundreds of metres of steep and remote cliffs, and are the home to kilometres of almost unexplored cave systems. The remote, almost inaccessible, and individually distinct tepuis have developed unique ecosystems with unique animal and plant species.
