In the UK, hung parliaments have been the result in election in 1885 (when the Irish Parliamentary Party held the balance of power), 1929 (when the Liberals led by David Lloyd George held the balance of power), February 1974 (with the rise of the Liberals under Jeremy Thorpe) and May 2010 (with the rise of the Liberal Democrats under Nick Clegg).
