The 1948 expulsion and flight of the Palestinians from their land
The expulsion started in 1947 during the wars in Palestine. More than 700,000 Palestinian Arabs about half of prewar Palestine's Arab population fled or were expelled from their homes. Al-Nakbah means literally "disaster", "catastrophe", or "cataclysm".
