The death of King George VI
The test matches in India's victory were from 2 November 1951 to 10 February 1952; King George died on 6 February 1952 and 7 February was declared a rest day for the teams. The Constitution of India, which made India a sovereign democratic republic, came into force on 26 January 1950. Everest and Tenzing Norgay surmounted Everest in May 1953. The election of Nehru, in the first elections held under the new constitution after independence from the United Kingdom, was at the end of the elections on 21 February 1952.
