Bar-tailed godwit
The godwit subspecies Limosa lapponica baueri breed in Alaska, and migrate across the Pacific Ocean to overwinter in New Zealand. It is among the longest migrations in the world. The longest are thought to be the arctic tern and the sooty shearwater; the arctic tern and New Zealand-bred sooty shearwaters are tracked as travelling up to 74,000 km (46,000 miles) in a year.
