1993
Kim Campbell became Prime Minister in June 1993 when she became leader of her party after the previous leader, Brian Mulroney, retired. However, her Prime Ministership was brief. Her party was defeated in the general elections at the end of the same year. Campbell is the first and, so far, the only woman to hold the position.
