The group was founded by eight current and former prominent Republicans specifically to prevent the re-election of Donald Trump - the Republican candidate - in the 2020 presidential election and to defeat his supporters in the United States Senate. Their website says: "The Lincoln Project. Dedicated Americans protecting democracy. The Lincoln Project is holding accountable those who would violate their oaths to the Constitution and would put others before Americans. The founders of the Lincoln project have spent over 200 years electing Republicans. But now, theyve sparked a nationwide movement with a singular mission: To defeat Donald Trump and Trumpism."
