Black soldier fly
The larvae feed voraciously on biodegradable refuse, excreting high quality manure for agriculture, and at the end of the process are killed, dried and ground for aquaculture, animal feed and pet food. The larvae are produced and processed for these purposes in small and in industrial-scale insect factories globally. Adult black soldier flies can only consume liquids such as flower nectar or do not eat at all; they do not regurgitate food along with digestive enzymes (as houseflies do), and so do not spread disease in this way.
