By the apparent motion of the distant, so-called fixed, stars about the Earth
Sidereal time is used by astronomers to locate objects. A sidereal day measured from Earth is approximately 86,164.0905 seconds (23 h 56 min 4.0905 s, or 23.9344696 h).
