Our Lady of Kibeho
Beginning in 1981, schoolgirls at Kibeho College, Rwanda, reported visions of Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, exhorting to penance and, among visions of violence, dismembered corpses, and destruction, asking everyone to pray to prevent a terrible war. The last reported vision was in 1989. In 1994 it is estimated that between 800,000 and over a million Rwandans were slaughtered by their countrymen and, in some cases, their next-door-neighbours. In 2001, the local bishop of the Catholic Church officially recognised the visions as authentic.
