The sprinter, Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, was escorted to the airport by Belarussian staff mid-Games to return her to Belarus. She asked for Japanese help and was given police protection to enable her to stay. Poland offered her a humanitarian visa and she sought refuge there. She reported that the confrontation fo9llowed her criticising her coaches for suddenly placing her in a race she was not prepared for, Belarusian authorities suggest instead that her state of mind was not stable enough for her to compete.
