Joan of Arc, accused of heresy and other matters
Jeanne d'Arc was condemned at trial in Rouen in 1431 and executed by burning at the stake. The retrial 25 years later was sought by her mother and two brothers, was judged under delegation from the Pope, declared the sentence null and void, and completely cleared her (and her family's) name. "We say, pronounce, decree, and declare, the said Processes and Sentences full of cozenage, iniquity, inconsequences, and manifest errors, in fact as well as in law; We say that they have been, are, and shall be---as well as the aforesaid Abjuration, their execution, and all that followed---null, non-existent, without value or effect."
