Significance of Char Dham
The term "Char Dham" was given by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Char Dham Yatra has a great significance among the Hindus. There is a belief among the Hindu community that a yatra to the Char Dham washes away all the sins of a person and takes him to 'Moksha'. It is also believed that a Hindu must visit these pilgrimage sites once in his lifetime.

List of Char Dham
Badrinath in the north - Dedicated to Lord Vishnu
Puri in the east - Dedicated to Lord Jagnnath (Krishna)
Rameswaram in the south - Dedicated to Lord Shiva
Dwarka in the west - Dedicated to lord Shiva

There is another mentioning of Char Dham i.e. chota Char Dham in the state of Uttarakhand which consist of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
