Over 1°C
The Antarctic Peninsula, the part of Antarctica furthest from the South Pole, has been warming rapidly, five times faster than the global average. On the Wilkins Ice Shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula, the air temperature increased by substantially more than that of the sea, being over 3°C during 1950 to 2000. Air temperatures generally in Antarctica show volatility from extreme heat to extreme cold but overall show a trend upwards
