The Olympic flame was lighted by two people
Two 15-year-old athletes, Stéphane Préfontaine and Sandra Henderson, were chosen as representing both languages current in the host nation, Canada. Henderson was also the second woman to light the flame (after Norma Enriqueta Basilio de Sotelo at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico). The other "firsts" relate to the 1968 Olympics.
