Across an area of northeastern Niger and western Chad
The Ténéré is a desert region of over 400,000 sq. km (150,000 sq mi). The name means "desert" in the Tuareg language, in much the same way as the Arabic word for "desert", Sahara, is also applied to the area. Areas in the Ténéré are noted for extensive animal fossil deposits.
