1980
The International Olympics Committee (IOC) accepted an objection by the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the Republic of China (Taiwan)'s participating in the1980 Olympics under that name, and insisted that Taiwan use the name Chinese Taipei and a new flag. Taiwan declined and arrived at the Games with the same name and flag, were refused entry, and boycotted the Games. The PRC then took part in its first Olympic Games since 1952 and the first Winter Games in its history.
