Elisha Gray
Gray was an electrical engineer and prolific inventor. He co-founded the Western Electric Manufacturing Company and developed and, on 14 February 1876, applied for a provisional patent in the US for a telephone. On the same day Bell's lawyers submitted a draft application in the US for the same system. The discussion continues as to which inventor should have the rights to the telephone.
