Emerson Fittipaldi
The youngest to that time had been Jochen Rindt, in 1970, at 28. The record was broken in 2010 by Sebastian Vettel, when he won the 2010 championship at 23 years and 134 days old, narrowly edging out Sir Lewis Hamilton who won in 2008 at the age of 23 years 299 days.
