Lebanon
Sabra and Shatila were two Palestinian refugee camps attacked 16-18 September 1982 by Lebanese Christian Phalangist militia. The massacre happened in the context of Israel's invasion of Lebanon during its 15 year civil war, and with Israel's co-operation. Estimates of numbers killed vary from 460 (according to Lebanese police) to 3,500, mostly Palestinian civilians.
